840 - powering off mid ride

Hi,

bought a new Edge 840 last week and on my first few rides today - on my commute to and from work on several occasions the device powered off and on again resulting in lost rode data etc - it’s seemed to happen every 30mins - I contacted Garmin support and they said it was an software issue and they recommended using the beta program to fix the issue! Just enquiring if anyone else had this issue?

    but the Phone BT connection is active , i suppose (i dont use that function, so my unit is "offline" midride, only the wifi is active at home). then one of these online feature is the culprit i assume, lets try the 28.33 , maybe that fixed something (but i dont think so)

    For completness: I had also the BT-connection alive. Maybe the device was only "overloaded", because I have some data-fields which require BT-connection to the phone

    Same issue here on the 28.20  I had a simple workout without many connections going and it restarted 7 times over 3 hours. Also it wiped a large portion of my ride upon upload. Super unfortunate

    not sure that it will help but try it: Menu->System->Device Reset->Delete Temporary Files

    Had this issue restarting mid ride last week and again today. In both cases after restarting the course was still active but I had to press start to resume recording. Last week I was connected to Di2 sensors today I was not. Using BT HRM from instinct 2.

    Also restarted today after the ride when the ride was stopped and being synced with Connect. After it powered up it offered me the opportunity to reset the unit (which I ignored).

    Software version is 28.33. Suspicious that this has occurred since software upgrade....

    Hi, had issue like that some time ago. This was because I was using custom build of openstreetmaps loaded into my garmin device. Once I deleted all custom map files and installed these that garmin provides - I never had restart mid-ride. This might be a hint for you to check.

    I did a bike session on the turbo using indoor mode for 2 hours and had zero issues but the following day once I switched back to outdoor for my cycle to work it switched off twice in the first hour! Only difference was the unit was using GPS and had Varia connected

    Hi 2534559 - thanks for the suggestion. The first restart was before I up loaded mapping for Greece for an upcoming trip. So I think don't think that is the issue. However once I get to Greece I may discover there is another issue!....

    My 840 rebooted 5 times during my 32 mile ride. So frustrating!!!
