Edge 840: battery drain in OFF status

Hi guys, I noticed the battery draining even when completely turning the device off (pressing the off button and then "off"). I also tested disabling Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, then turning the device off and on again after a few days, and the battery percentage had decreased.
I tried contacting Garmin support, asking if it was normal for it to drain when turned off and how much, but I received a useless reply telling me to send it in for repairs, nothing else.

Does this also happen to your Edge 840s?
Mine lost 1% in 4.5 days.

  • i think that is normal (i thought you have much more... ) and dont forget the percentage display is not ultraaccurate, so even if you switch off and on, the % could be immediately different.

  • That's not far off the normal self discharge rate for Li ion batteries, which can depend on a lot of factors.  Self discharge near 100% charge occurs more quickly.  It's also higher at higher temperatures.  There can also be small parasitic drain in many devices as part of normal operation.  And, as Luko79 points out, charge level indicators are not terribly accurate. Google "Li ion self discharge rate" and see what you get.

  • 1 % in 4.5 day is, basically, nothing.

  • 1% in 4.5 days is better than average. Insignificant. I don't think the battery level can be measured to within 1%. Mine loses a few percent if off and idle for a week.

  • I understand your point and yes, It is not a drama. But I reported the situation to the assistance, only also to ask if it is normal and some further information and they only say me "send the device back to assistance"...
