Questions for Edge 840 Newbie

Hello,

1. I migrated my profiles from the Edge 830. The "Distance to Destination" data field always showed me the remaining distance to the end of the loaded route. Now it always shows 0 km. Where

is this? Like on the Edge 830, I've disabled track recalculation. I just display the track on the map.

2. The Edge 840 now has 32 GB instead of 16 GB, but the storage is extremely full. I only have an OSM Germany map installed, and it just barely fit. How can I save storage on the Edge 840?

In the map manager, I find a locked US map that I can't delete. I actually only need the Garmin maps of Europe.

Perhaps it's possible to delete unnecessary databases? I mean, I don't need a map with hazards either. Is there any way to manually delete them from the USB drive? And if so, what are the file names?

I got more space, and I deleted the locked map. How? I first removed the entire EU map using Garmin Express. Then I checked which large files were still on the USB drive. They were:

GMAPDEM.IMG, GMAPGC…

Have you tried modifying maps through Garmin Express? It would also allow you to choose which regions of Europe you need, West, Central, and East. Hazards are loaded dynamically but you can disable the popup in your activity profile > alerts > road hazards.

For your data field, try dist. to go found under the workouts category.

Yes. I only installed the EU-Maps there. But I still have the locked US-Map in the Garmin. Maybe its only the elevation map?

I got more space, and I deleted the locked map. How? I first removed the entire EU map using Garmin Express. Then I checked which large files were still on the USB drive. They were:

GMAPDEM.IMG, GMAPGC.IMG and in the SQL/Internal folder: D9932050A

I backed up these files and then deleted them manually. I then restored the EU map using Garmin Express. Now I have almost 7 GB of free storage instead of 1.6 GB (I still have my own 3 GB map in the device).

The correct datafiels is in navigation - distance to destination. Now it works I dont know why. distance to go from workout does not work.

I'm glad you figured that all out. There are some other large-ish files in the SID folder but I couldn't tell you which remove. It would also only save you ~150 MB. It's a database for searching things like cafe or restroom.

Well, yes you'd have to find which corresponds to the map region you are eliminating. Or just leave it as it's not a huge savings.

Its ok. 150 MB is not much. But when I delete this files, and reinstall the EU-Map. The DB would also be copied again?
