Turning itself on

I am aware this issue has been raised before. Hundreds of times with every single Edge model ever made no doubt. But it’s never been fixed and never explained. Why does my 840 (and every edge I have owned) turn itself on when I plug it in to charge and then again when I remove it from charge. This is really annoying and completely pointless behaviour.

  • It will turn itself off as well.

  • The question remains, why on earth would anyone deliberately engineer such pointless behaviour and even more to the point why after many years of users questioning this behaviour haven’t the engineers at Garmin fixed it?

  • No evidence that it's broken.

  • It’s not broken. It’s engineered to do this. The question is why? It’s behaviour that I can’t see any purpose too and in all the years of owning Edges and seeing this issue raised I have never seen a Garmin engineer explain the purpose. I would guess it served a long forgotten purpose in the past and no one at Garmin can be bothered to fix it now and most users have got used to it and just think it’s the way Edges work

  • How can some people complicate something that isn't complicated?

  • Maybe the same bothering thing that is to correct a eat/drink alert full screen, whereas a safety alert only display in a small banner.......ha, and sometimes on top of a map dangerous turn banner....i guess better get the the alert for the banana before crashing is more important Slight smile

  • Due this stupid behaviour I caught myself already several times having 0% battery. Since my kids wanted to charge their tablet, and removed the garmin which was full. But I didnt realized the device turned itself on. I only use the edge on Sunday rides and all other rides I use the epix pro. Why cant the engineers just leave stuff as is. Device off + plug in charger = device off and charging! Remove charger => device remains off! simpel.

  • It does turn itself off, check your settings.  Buy another charger instead of blaming your kids.
