I was on a MTB Ride not too far from my house. At one point during the ride, I wanted to head back, so I selected Navigation Route back to Start. Most Direct Route. It was having me go back the way I came. I knew I didn't want to go that way, so I ignored it and rode a different way that was more of a loop. I expected the Edge 840 to recalculate at some point and give me the route that I was taking or something close to it.
After another few miles, I noticed it didn't have any route/navigation going. So I went into navigation and selected Route back to Start (most direct route) again. This time it gave me "Route Calculation Error" and failed. Luckily I knew the way to go, but tried routing back to start/Direct route a few more times. Even when I was only a couple of miles from my house on a paved road, it still gave the error. I could see on the map that it knew where I started.
The only thing I can think of is either:
- My street doesn't seem to be in the garmin map for the Edge 840. Not sure why because the street has been here for 6 years. Its in the connect app and web-site for connect.
- I inadvertently started my ride using a road bike Activity Profile. I switched to my MTB profile after a few hundred yards of riding.
- Something else is wrong with my device or the software?
When I got home I reloaded the latest maps, just in case that could be the problem.
As a side note, I noticed a few times when I synced up courses from Garmin Connect on the web-site, and tried to ride with them, I'll get a Route Calculation Error. Maybe this is related?
