Maps Won't Update

I recently updated my Edge 840's software to v27.14.  At this time I can't update the North America map because I don't have enough room on my 840.  Worse yet, I updated Garmin Express and now Garmin Express is bricked. It will not open.  Android File Transfer is closed and is not connected to my 840 (the 840 is plugged into my Mac).  Any ideas?

    I ended up reinstalling Garmin Express. In total it took three tries to get Garmin Express to install properly.

    On a quasi-related note, I wish Garmin would update Garmin Express to give it the ability to show files on their bike computers with the Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) file format so that a user can copy a ride file to their computer without having to use a 3rd party app like Android File Transfer.  I need raw ride files from my 840 because I upload them to Golden Cheetah (an app on my Mac) for analysis.  With apps like Android File Transfer, I can get the ride files, but to then use Garmin Express to do an update, such as the map updates last night, I have to open a Mac utility (Activity Monitor) to close a part of Android File Transfer that runs in the background even if ATF is closed.  That's a pain.
