Unit says a CycleMap update is available, but is being discontinued

I'm confused. Garmin Express says updates are available for TopoActive North America (which I have installed), Trailforks (I guess is installed; didn't know about it), and TopoActive Europe, which I previously uninstalled because I needed space for the previous NA update. But my unit says there are updates for TopoActive North America, CycleMaps North America (both listed as a single map update in Map Manager?!), and Trailforks.

The FAQ says this,

Effective May 7, 2025, Garmin Cycle Maps for Edge® cycling computers and Garmin® watches are being discontinued. The same mapping content will now be included in our TopoActive maps and can be purchased or downloaded on compatible devices.

So why am I being offered an update? And, I should note, on the unit it doesn't actually say "update available", just that it's available for download.

I'm taking a trip to Italy in July and want to install the TopoActive Europe maps (whichever is needed; I hear there are 3 zones). I don't mountain bike, but may one day so if I can keep Trailforks (pretty small) that's fine. So what do I need to do here?

Just trust Garmin Express and install from there? Should I manually remove every map from within the unit's Map Manager as some people appear to have done when I searched for similar issues?

Also, sizes on the unit are way higher than in Express for map update. But if I combine the TopoActive NA and CycleMaps sizes, it does total to the same size as what "Update available" shown in Map Manager show.
