Edge 840 Navigation won't track route

I uploaded a 60 mile out and back route that I created with RWGPS and when I went to ride the directions indicated to make a u-trun at each cue.  The cue sheet is correct and the map showes the out and back route on the edge.  It is only the turn directions that will not work on the first half of a out and back route.  I gave up on the ride at the 11 mile point at which point I made a u-turn then the edge showed correct turn directions.  Not very useful if it only works on the return portion of a ride.

  • IDK.  In the past, I found that the Garmin couldn't distinguish between when I was outbound on an out-and-back and might think I was inbound when I was outbound.  What I did back then was create two courses, one outbound and one inbound, and navigate them separately.   This eliminated any ambiguity.  I thought this had been fixed, but maybe not.

  • I considered this option but I want to record my ride as one. Can I stop one route and start another while keeping my ride to record as one?  It seems that Garmin should be able to fix this as the cue sheet is correct.

  • Yes. Recording is independent of navigation.  Once you press start, it will record until you press stop, irrespective of what you do with navigation. You ride without navigating a course or can stop, start, and change courses without interrupting recording.
