Edge 840/Fenix 8 sync (Training Load, Body Battery etc)

Hi everyone

What do you guys do to get accurate readings and collect all data between the devices?

Because Edge 840 doesn't have Body Battery i have the last two years recorded with both devices, and after each ride deleted the Edge File.

I am using the Edge as "Head computer" and recording my Laps so it will sync through TrainingPeaks and then delete the file in Garmin.

Very disappointing that Garmin doesn't make Body Battery available through sync True Up sp we can only use one device at the time.

BUT, what i started to see is that the devices are not recording or collecting the same data så Average Power/Normalized Power and Heart Rate is not the same.

Because this readings different from each other also the Training Load etc is different and what device should we trust?

(look screenshot at last ride before i delete the Edge file)

  • I always connect all the sensors to both. So Edge and Fenix are both connected to cadence/speed/power/hrm sensors at the same time, so both of them are recording the same data. Also, Fenix as default use Dynamic HR, so it combines HR from optical sensor and strap. I have it off, so both devices record the same data.

  • I ride with an Edge 530 and just got a Forerunner 570 (my first Garmin watch). This morning I recorded my outdoor ride with the Edge and just started a cycling ride with my Forerunner. I have not connected the Forerunner to anything on my bike or the Edge. I ended up with both rides recorded in Garmin Connect. The watch ride depletes my Body Battery but as we know the Edge ride does not. I saw both rides in GC, I took note of my Body Battery score then deleted the Forerunner watch ride. My Body Battery score remained the same as it was prior to deleting it and the icon for the Forerunner ride also disappeared in the Body Battery graph but the title was still present but no info was available for the watch ride. I'm thinking this may be a work around to have the Body Battery work for my rides.
