Huge TopoActive 2025.10 map update

Hello,

just did the recent topoactive 2025.10 update and wondered about the huge file size this was adding, compared to 2024.20

I have an 840 and live in Europe. Before, the whole Europe pack (west, middle, east) was downloaded by default, with about half of the storage space free.

After the update, roughly 90% of the storage is used. Is this normal from a map update? I cannot imagine the map has now new details/roads worth around 10GB.
Or do I have to reinstall all of them?
*in the file explorer, it looks like each of the 3 maps is around 2.8GB, which seems normal, but what takes the rest of the space

(On 540s, I think just one Europe region map is installed, but is there even enough space for this update?)

    - teraz podłącz garmina do komputera i usuń z głównego folderu Garmin plik z mapą (czyli ten którego kopie zrobiłeś wcześniej)

    - odłącz ponownie garmina i znowu sprawdź listę map dostępnych w urządzeniu w zakładce "o mapach". Porównaj z listą zapisaną wcześniej i wówczas będziesz wiedział jakiej mapie odpowiadał usunięty plik.

W tej operacji nie ma ryzyka utraty map bo wszystkie mapy można ponownie zainstalować za pomocą Garmin Express.

  • Hello,

I stumbled across this thread once I discovered this rather interesting split (W+C+E) in 2025.10 TopoActive maps that I updated my device with last weekend, along the DEM maps also being equally split across these teritorries now.

My query is this: after the problem in this thread has been addressed, are you able to advise (picture is best) the exact TopoActive 2025.10  map files and their names on your device please?

I my case due to (probably the same issue - alleged lack of space) I got only one of the DEM maps (C) installed, everything else was copied okay... I initially replaced it with the previous DEM map I got (1.2GB) for the whole Europe, along its UNL and GMA codes. But am wondering if I should reinstall the whole lot?

  • I'm not sure which one is which, but the following big files are on my device for the 2025.10 versions of Basemap, Trailforks, TopoActive Europe All, DEM Map Europe All, Geocode Map Europe All:

    Garmin/:
    D6184160A.img, D9486050A.img, D6185160A.img, D4728160A.img, DB515000A.img, D4713100A.img, DB516000A.img, D4728170A.img, DB517000A.img, DB518000A.img, D7557140A.img, gmapbmap.img, gmaptz.img

    Garmin/SID/: (popularity map???)
    D8434090A.sid, D9497060A.sid, D8433090A.sid

    Garmin/SQL/INTERNAL/:
    D9943050A.db, DA307030A.db, D9941050A.db, D9942050A.db, DA54200.db, MapRegionGrouping.db

In the end, there is about 8,7GB of free space on my device.

  • Thanks very much! That's of help - can compare these files with mine ones later.

...any chance to get file sizes as well? ;-) Just to be on the safe side.

(I use another device - Oregon - and it used to rename the DEM map onto gmapdem.img during installation process. This time as well, but it did use just one file [C] for that purpose, and skipped all others [W+E]...)

  • I deleted ALL maps from the SQL folder on my 840. (after transfering them to my pc). I than used Garmin connect software to download and install the maps from east, west and central Europe and everything seems fine or am I missing something?

  • You didn't have to delete all files from the SQL folder, just those larger than 1 GB. But if everything works and reinstallation restored the deleted files, then everything is OK.
