Huge TopoActive 2025.10 map update

Hello,

just did the recent topoactive 2025.10 update and wondered about the huge file size this was adding, compared to 2024.20

I have an 840 and live in Europe. Before, the whole Europe pack (west, middle, east) was downloaded by default, with about half of the storage space free.

After the update, roughly 90% of the storage is used. Is this normal from a map update? I cannot imagine the map has now new details/roads worth around 10GB.
Or do I have to reinstall all of them?
*in the file explorer, it looks like each of the 3 maps is around 2.8GB, which seems normal, but what takes the rest of the space

(On 540s, I think just one Europe region map is installed, but is there even enough space for this update?)

  • Update:
    - I tried uninstalling the 3 europe maps and when I wanted to install a single one, an error always occurred. -> so it seems those 3 have to be installed together (GarminExpress 7.25.0)

    - under system>map manager>cyclemaps there are now 2: Topoactive Europe 18GB, and CycleMay Europe 2.3GB (with a red lock, but can't be un-/reinstalled)

    - under activity profile>navigation>map>configure, it seems that I now have some duplicates:
    Worldwide DEM Basemap, NR
    Trailforks 2025.10
TopoActive Europe [West, Central, East] 2025.10
Garmin DEM Map Europe [West, Central, East] 2025.10
Garmin Geocode Map Europe [West, Central, East] 2025.10

    And now the partly-duplicates:
Garmin ClimbPro EU Central 1 2025.10
Garmin ClimbPro EU Central 2 2025.10
    Garmin ClimbPro EU East 2025.10
    Garmin ClimbPro EU West 2025.10
[2x] Garmin ClimbPro EU Central 2024.20
    Garmin ClimbPro EU East 2024.20
    Garmin ClimbPro EU West 2024.20

ClimbPro Maps can't be selected on the device or in GarminExpress and therefore un-/reinstalled

  • Garmin update the changelop of TopoActive 2025.10

    https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=LR6HR5Xul6A9zoxySC5KM9

Effective May 7, 2025, Garmin Cycle Maps for Edge® cycling computers and Garmin watches are being discontinued. The same mapping content will now be included in our TopoActive maps

  • Ok, I see...

But is there a way to uninstall (1.) the locked, old CycleMap to have 2.3GB more space and (2.) the seemingly outdated ClimbPro 2024.20 maps?

Or is this map behaviour an error just on my device?

  • I see the same stuff in my Edge 840. I was wondering to delete those seemingly outdated files as well, but a bit afraid to do it :))

  • If you move these to your harddisk you have a copy.

  • Witam. Rozwiązaniem problemu żeby mieć zainstalowane dwa całe regiony/mapy, na przykład: Europa Central + Europa East jest:

    1. Odinstaluj wszystkie mapy za pomocą Garmin Express

    2. Podłącz ponownie Garmin EDGE 540 do komputera.

Nawet jeśli ktoś usunąłby je przypadkiem to instalacja mapy danego regiony przywróci usunięty plik.

  • Nice, thanks for the guide

Now I have about 6GB more of free space, just by deleting the old ClimbPro Maps

(in the map manager is still, in addition to the new TopoActive, the outdated CycleMap listed with a red lock, but maybe this is just a bug, since it's version is described as 2025.10, which can't be possible)

  • Wait so the default maps we all likely have installed are being discontinued? They won't receive updates anymore but instead we are expected to buy an update/subscription to their topo maps? I can understand rolling together their products but that is a $60 download. Was this announced previously?

  • No, at least in my case (x40 gen) the maps are continued for free.

I imagine they just wanted to create a shared map-base with all their other products for easier maintenance, so no dedicated cyclemap.

  • Quite similar situation here. How do you map the maps to file names? Just to manually delete certain maps. Is that somewhere documented?
