Since my area has virtually zero support for navigation, the function of navigating anywhere is redundant.
Previously, on my EDGE 530, selecting Ride in the segments list, would just open the map and show me an overview.
On the EDGE 840, it will calculate a route to navigate to the segment. In my case, calculating a route to a segment just a couple Km away, can often lead to a route thats 10-50km long to get to the segment. Often this is via routes that dont exist or are impossible to ride.
The route is easily ignored, but if I don't obey Garmin's exact route, I can ride up to the segment, the device tells me it starts in x-hundred meters, but when I cross the start it either doesn't start or it starts but then stops... it stops in the sense it still shows the segment, but as if I still haven't started it. Timer 0, Distance traveled 0, etc
How does this make sense?
