speed cadence sensor

I use the classic ant+ speed/cadence sensor combo for years on my bike for 10 years without issues on my Fenix3, fenix5, edge 530 and now its connected to my edge 840. But the sensor keeps on dropping. I have to restart the sensor by pressing a key in the button on the side. Then restart the edge 840 and then it works. I have changed batteries of the sensor but no success. I have an idea that with an earlier firmware it was working fine. Or at least much better than the latest official FW.

Anyone else is having this issue?

  • I'm still using a 15 year old GSC10 speed/cadence sensor on one of my bikes without issue.  I'm sure you have the magnets close enough to reliably trip the sensor so there are a few things I can think of to try.  A fresh battery without  the "child safe" coating that some have might help.  Another thing to try is to place the battery in it upside down for a few seconds. This shorts the sensor's battery terminals together forcing a reset of the device.  If it's gotten moisture in it, taking the battery out and leaving it open in a warm place to dry out might help.  This has revived my equally old Garmin HR strap a couple of times and it's still working fine too.  On my newest bikes, I'm using Magene speed and cadence sensors. These don't use magnets, have both BT and ANT+, are under $20 on Amazon, and work great.
