26.16 - Bug report Grade-% algorithm error

Unfortunately, not to my surprise, the grade-%-algorithm error has still not yet been fixed.

This despite all intermediate beta-releases.

  • Who would need a bike computer to show them the real grade?

It's better if it shows you -2% and you see that it's over 10% and it freaks you out.

Now even one of the most basic GPS functions is no longer working normal for at least 3 major updates...

  • Aun los avisos de curva pronunciada no se muestran en la pantalla en la noche

  • I can't belive that garmin is not able to fix this. Surely this it not the most important thing using a bike computer, but the calculation based on barometic sensor should be possible? Or not?
That up and down of the grade is prolly based on calculating with gps and map data and barometric values.

So go on garmin, you can fix this or make at least a choice in the options to disable gps data in grade calculation

  • I fully agree that Garmin must fix this, soon.

Your conclusion that gps-data is used to calculate grade, I do not agree with: as mentioned somewhere before in this 840 or 1040 forum on the same error: what I notice is that at the start of a climb elevation is increasing (as it should), whilst, at the same time, the grade-percentage shows negative numbers. Elevation is more or less a primary variable, based on air pressure only (when the opening to the pressure sensor inside the Edge is plugged by water or else, elevation readings go haywire). The grade-% is a derivative variable (literally) and need as well distance values to divide gained elevation by traveled distance. This is algorithm mistake in the signal filtering (to filter out bumbs, traffic calming tables and even rough road surface) I guess; possible somewhere an overlooked minus instead or a plus, or a misplaced bracket in the calculation. I don't know.
