Edge 840 infinite boot loop - loader 25.25

I last used my Edge 840 and successfully sync'd the device on Sunday 12th Jan and then selected to Power Off the device (hold down power and select Power Off). I have done this many times before without issue.

I then turned it on Wed 15th Jan and the device immediately went into a boot loop.

Device is running load 25.25 (This was updated previously)

I was able to eventually reset the device (through much frustration!!) and get it up and running again, though no base map.

I then connected to the latest Garmin Express ( I had removed/uninstalled existing version and cleared all Garmin files/folder from \AppData\Local\Garmin) and selected my required Map (Routable Africa 2024.10). This then installed and I rebooted the device.

When it started up , The splash screen displayed a message "GCD update failed" and the device restarts.

It then displays the splash screen shows "loading courses, workouts and locations, then restarts and goes into a loop. This is where I'm stuck.

I can boot it into MTP mode, though I cannot get it to start normally.

Any suggestions ? Is there something in the Debug\EventLogs etc that can be used to pin point the issue?

    Ok, an update. After much trial and error I managed to get the device fully reset and re-installed the map.
    Device is now starting up correctly!

    What a pain that was, many hours wasted!

    I performed the following:

    1. Power device off.
    2. Press and hold Lap and Start/Stop.
    3. Power the device on while still holding both buttons.
    4. Continue holding buttons when Garmin’s “splash” screen appears.
    5. Release buttons when the Garmin “splash” screen disappears.

    You may have to try this a few times.

    Thank you very much! I did this this morning. All things lost, but I have a working Edge 1040 again!

    I also had my edge 840 bootloop on v25.25 after indoor session 2 days ago. It started to bootloop when switching to training profile or turning on GPS. It did that 6-7 times then I waited on indoor profile for a minute, sync with Garmin connect or something, then turned on GPS and worked fine after that. I think it may have been related to the GPS file error that Garmin watches had. Very weird..
