Heart rate wont connect after activity starts

I use an Edge 840 on my bike, and transmit heart rate from my Fenix 6X sapphire. I usually do this by starting a ride activity on my Fenix 6X at the same time that i start one on my Edge.

Sometimes, I forget to start the activity on my Fenix, and the watch will eventually power save time out of the activity and my heart rate will disconnect.

No matter what I do at this point, I can't get heart rate to reconnect. It's almost like the 840 locks out new heart rate connections past a certain point in an activity.

Any suggestions on how I can get the heart rate to reconnect at this point?

840 has a rescan button for the already configured sensors. Pull down the menu from the top and the circle arrows near the sensor bank will rescan again.

Why are you starting a ride on the Fenix too. All you need do is transmit your HR to the Edge. You don't need to be in an activity on your Fenix to do this.

I've always found starting an activity more convenient than navigating to the broadcast heart rate menu.

I just set up a HotKey to start HR Broadcast (I actually use the top-right button).

If the 840 behaves like earlier models, sensor searching will stop 2 minutes after an activity is started. After that sensors can be manually connected by returning to the sensor menu and toggling the enable button for the sensor off then on again.

Thanks. I'm using a 530 so it's not quite that convenient.
