Hey all,
Wondering if someone can explain how this can happen.
I did a rather long (36 hour, 300 mi) ride a couple of days ago, with a couple hours stopped (Edge manually paused and screen off) at the 200 mile mark. When I started again, my Edge resumed the activity with no issues, but upon ending the ride, it appears that only the second part of the ride was recorded into the fit file. Oddly, the fit file did contain a large amount of metadata from the first part of the ride (lap info, climb info, start/stop metadata), and counters, such as total distance, continued accumulating from the 200 mile mark.
Thankfully, I was able to recover part of the ride recording from my strava beacon metadata and continuous HR info from my watch, but obviously at a far lower resolution, so it's not a total loss. But I'm definitely interested in how this could happen, since it seems like a pretty bad failure mode! Of note is the length of the ride (36 hr), and the pause duration (a couple of hours), as well as the fact that the ride started the day before.
I dug around in the fit file, but couldn't find any of the missing data in there, but I'm uploading in case it contains any hints as to how this could happen. Unfortunately, my 840 has the MTP update, so I couldn't attempt to use any file recovery tools.
I'm on an Edge 840, FW 25.25
