Why garmin can't cast my heartrate automatically?

I'm starting a ride on Edge. The computer has information that the only heart rate sensor I have is in my Garmin smartwatch. Why can't it be connected automatically, since both devices belong to the same ecosystem?

  • Smartwatch HR measurements during an activity is known to be unreliable, so I guess that Edge has been (sort of deliberately) designed not to connect smartwatch-HR automatically. Most of Edge-based algorithms will not be able to predict accurately any bike-related performance parameters from a smartwatch-HR. Consider getting a quality HR strap if you want to use Edge to calculate your HR-based performance on bike.

  • I often use my Fenix 7 to Cast HR to my Edge 840. I have to "Start" the casting process, but I've configured a HotKey for that so it only takes one press of a button to start Casting. Once I've done that the Edge picks it up automatically. Having it NOT Casting permanently likely saves some battery power so I don't mind the minimal intervention.

  • I also have hotkey, but in addition I also do screen blocking afterwards. Casting permanently is not an option, as casting screen will be popping up every time. What I'm asking is auto-casting during activities.

At least in situations when rider has the phone with them, which can act as a bridge to both devices, in case there is a limit to direct bluetooth connection between watches and computer
