Garmin Edge 840 is no longer able to manually transfer files to an iPad

My partner and I use iPads to transfer files to/from the 840 and manage the device, with the change on 25.24 she can no longer do so. Garmin Express isn't available for iPads - she only has an iPad and does not have a PC/Mac. Can you let me know how we now connect now please?

Fortunately, I have not updated from 24.19 and will not now do so but a fundamental reason we bought the 840 was for the iPad connection/management.

Both are iPad Pro M1s on the latest IOS.

  • It has to do with the change from classic mass storage mode to Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) in the 25.24 update. Also normal Macs do not support MTP out of the box.

  • I know that, it’s clearly implied in my question.

  •  With the change to MTP, the behavior you are seeing is what is expected. I am sorry for the inconvenience this change has caused, but the past use of an iPad in this manner was never how we intended for the 840 to be used.

The Garmin Connect app is available on iPad, although this is a mobile version and may not be ideal for all users. If you can describe what specifically your partner is trying to accomplish, we would be happy to prove alternatives to the best of our ability.

You've also not replied to the question asking why you would want to do this? Why are you not using Garmin Connect (which does run on iPads) to manage the device? What files are you trying to transfer that can't be done either direct from the device via Wifi or via Connect on the web?
