Bike odometer setting

You can do this by a little way around, use Gear in Garmin Connect. I also have two bikes, and after I finish the activity, I assign the bike to the activity in Connect app. Manually. Over there, in Gear menu, you can see odometer for every single gear - bike, shoes, skates, etc. - you have.

There is also similar feature people would like to have - specific Edge profile will assign specific gear to the activity. But that's not possible yet (if ever will be).

Right I’m aware of this.  Issue is you can not manually change the miles for the gear in connect.  So yes it will individually track that gear in connect but only from the day you start using the Garmin.  I have about 1,000 miles already on my analog bike that I now can not transfer over.  This is dumb, every other bikes computer down to a 20.00 cat eye has a programmable odometer and it’s too hard for a 450. Garmin to do?  Seriously?

Well this thing may be up for sale shortly.  Way more complicated than I needed and doesn’t seem to have a user friendly way to eliminate, slim down unwanted features accompanied by not even being able to accomplish something as simple as setup.  Can’t seem to clean up the user interface eliminating all the training bs and group ride etc…. Was just looking for a simple gps to replace my lezyne for mtb since it’s battery is getting weak but this is the most over complicated device I’ve used.  Really only need speed, miles, distance, heart rate, elevation, grade, and weather which I’ve setup in custom screens but can eliminate group ride, training plan, and then can’t even fully program bike details.

Yea so looks I’ve found a solution but it’s still way more complex than needed and insanely time consuming.  I’ve downloaded my Strava history and now adding all the .fit files and then the default gear as the bike seems to have mostly loaded the correct miles.  I have to go back and fix some of them changing it to the e bike manually.  I don’t understand the logic to this but I must be missing something because I was going to just sell this and get a wahoo (since I hear they’re simpler) yet I confirmed with wahoo they don’t have two odometer options either.  If it weren’t for the lack of continued support for lezyne (being phased out it seems and k edge not making replacement mounts) I’d just replace the mega battery, such a simpler platform and only one that can track two bikes.  I guess from here on the Garmin should track individually in gear, not sure about the gps odo screen yet if it changes per bike or not.

Yep you bought a way too complicated bike computer for your needs. You can only blame yourself. I warn everyone who is asking me for advice on a possible purchase of a high end Garmin. They are for ppeople who are into training schemes, FTP  etc. For people who just want to ride a simple Wahoo is a better choice. Why is being able to manually adjust the ODO meter so important? I’m not judging, just curious.

I can't speak for the OP, but I like to know the mileage on my bikes and their components. It not only helps with planning a maintenance schedule, but it gives me a metric to know the life of certain components (tires, brake pads, chains, etc.). There's no reason NOT to know the mileage through a bike computer.

On top of other reasons listed I also like to have a Quick Look at how many miles I did over x time analog vs e-bike.  Others may want the same quick answer of road vs mtn.  Why go through every ride in Strava etc.. and tally it up where if my super duper gps that’s so advanced can track each of my bikes miles so I can know in January what the miles are and by December I can look back and say oh I need to put some more analog miles in I’ve been lazy.  Oh except that’s a too complicated feature for an advanced gps, need to step down to a weaker computer.  Point is it should easily be able to be done and why does Garmin care how I want to use it.

It can be quite limiting that Garmin doesn’t allow you to set individual odometer readings for each bike on the Edge 840. Many cyclists prefer to keep their mileage separate for maintenance and tracking purposes. While the Connect app can track overall mileage, the inability to input current mileage for different bikes seems like an oversight.

Keep an eye on the mileage of different bikes is not a problem. You can create a different profile for each bike if you want that. Then for each bike the mileage is logged. The problem is you can’t transfer the mileage from you old computer but that is only a problem until the next reset.
