24.18 and 24.19 Grade % wildly inaccurate

On both of our 840s and my 540, 24.18 and 24.19 grade information is inaccurate and very jumpy.  Today's ride was on a Rail-Trail, so I know the grades are long and very consistent.  The Edges will show a descent when we are clearly climbing and the values jump all over the place.  Worst example was a long 2% climb, which Edge beta prior to 24.18 correctly identified.  24.19 identified the grade as -4%, yes, a 4% descent.

  • I forgot to add, Climb Pro has these climbs in the database.  Climb-Pro correctly shows what the grade should be, but Edge shows the crazy numbers that don't match.

  • Totally agree, before this update the grade was very laggy but essentially accurate. Now it's all over the place, sometimes it represents the grafe well, other times it jumps around like crazy. For example getting to the top of a climb the road was leveling out and the 1040 started increasing the grade rapidly, then kept a positive grade until we were well into a downhill section. I would prefer the old laggy response. Seems like whoever reprogrammed the algorithm to make it respond faster never fully tested it. Very dissatisfied with Garmin.

  • I had the same problem today, doing a climb I know with my eyes closed and at a point that is 14/15% it showed 5/6% I was soooo mad as this Garmin is two weeks old!!!! GARMIN FIX THIS RIGHT AWAY!! We are spending so much money for new products (had a 530 and was great) which are worst than the previous generation and 50€ more. RIP OFF!

  • I'm seeing the same busted gradient on all 40-series devices between my 840 and friend's devices - obvious 6+% climbs showing as 1%, long flat roads showing as 2%, and more.  I may as well remove the field from my pages.

  • Yep, I'm having the same issues. I was doing steep gravel climbs last week in excess of 10% and it was telling it was -2%! Climb Pro was displaying accurately though, it was only the live gradient which was way off.

Total ascent for the activity all looked fine as well.

  • Yes the overall elevation gain seems to be ok, that is why I don’t understand. Now it seems to be back to normal also the live gradient. IDK what is going on!!

  • Are you putting the unit to sleep mid ride and then observing bad grades values when you restart the activity? I have a ticket open for that use case.

  • No, just a normal ride without entering sleep.

  • Is the unit coming out of sleep mode to start the activity?
