Climb Pro Climb Detection - now all or nothing since update

Since the removal of the Climb Detection options to be able to select All Climbs, Medium to Large Climbs or only Large Climbs I'm getting bombarded with Climb Pro alerts for practically every bump in the road. Have tried de-selecting Uncategorized from the climb categories but this results in not getting any climb alerts at all, rendering Climb Pro next to useless for me. The previous setting of Medium to Large Climbs (climbs scores of 3,500 or greater) worked perfectly for the terrain I'm riding, which is mostly rolling with a few decent climbs but there's now too big of a gap in the new settings. It's now either Uncategorized (greater than 1,500) or Category 4 (greater than 8,000) which for me is all or nothing.

@Garmin, we don't all live in the mountains. Please re-instate the option for detection of climb scores greater than 3,500!

  • Found the same, but when I looked around I found a setting. Mine defaulted to basically detect everything, but there is a category of climb you can still select. I think it is per activity type and in the activity settings menu, from memory.

  • I think you're referring to the climb categories, which are indeed profile specific. These used to be a separate setting under climb detection but since the new update are the only setting you get under climb detection. De-selecting the default of uncategorized only means that no climbs in my area are detected as there's too big of a gap in climb scores between Uncategorized and the next choice of category 4. In the UK category 4 climbs would probably get detected if I live somewhere very hilly with long and steep climbs but I live in a relatively flat and rolling area so this is no good for me as nothing gets detected.

To sort this issue Garmin need to add something to the climb categories that sits between uncategorized and cat 4, e.g. cat 5, with a climb score of 3,500. This would be the equivalent of the old setting of medium to large climbs. I'm surprised they didn't consider this when they were building the new update.

  • Yes, cat 4 eliminates previous medium climbs.

  • Same. We need a middle ground. Old 1030 unit was about right.
