Wrong elevation data after update

I updated my Edge 840 to software version 21.17 and after this, my device shows wrong elevation. What could be he problem?

  • it is automatically set the accurate elevation when the GNSS is fully locked after a power on (so you dont need to start an activity recording). or after the start by the DEM file. when do you get this "wrong" elevation, show us example or give us more details .

    • I start the activity as usual, “elevation is calibrated to location” or something like this shows and during the ride the problem starts. I can see it live, i go uphill and elevation doesnt rise, i go downhill and then it randomly starts to rise, or drop much more than it should. And final elevation gained is also not right, according to Strava. Last ride it was 25% more than it should be, the ride before it was 40% less. And all this started after the last update.
  • Yesterday I had the same issue. I went uphill and it  showed negative slopes. In the end, out of 3400 meters of positive altitude difference, I only scored 2400 meters!

  • It was after an update 21.17 I guess.

  • try to restart your Edge (press and hold the power button until restart by itself, 20secs apprx). and check and clean the holes on the backside. didnt you ride i rain previously?

  • The device is new, recently received from Garmin to replace a faulty one after just one year of use. It wasn't in the rain. Furthermore, a device with IPX7 certification should not have any problems with rain, being able to stay under one meter of water for 30 minutes! Plus it's advertised as dedicated to mountain biking and does it fear rain and dust? I'm afraid that it's the same story as the faulty altimeter of the 830 where after useless resets, cleaning of the holes on the cover, etc. the devices only needed to be replaced

  • yeah, but these are the main steps to eliminate any other source of problem. if in the tiny holes on the backside has moisure or dust/dirt then the barometer can't work normal, so under water it is not working :D (the unit has water proof certifiaction but that doesnt mean all features are working under water.. as the GPS neither work if the unit is deep in the water :) ) ofc, could be a faulty barometer series in certain SNs or different model than in mine or in others (as you know, there are many revisions from all Garmin products during their lifespan just the Garmin dont advertise it, they are changing, re-designing the interiors (parts), and the firmware should work on all versions (just sometimes it is not succeed... )

  • I was just going to post that courses I created just the other day ended up being over 400m different from the actual ride I did yesterday, which is significant!

Never noticed an issue with elevation until that, so "hopefully" it's related to the update.
