Ant+ Function Setup

With the latest update it is possible to assign actions to SRAM wireless blips with a short press and/or a long press of the blip. I am trying to set them up so a short press changes gear as in original setup and long press advances the Garmin screen page.

So far the 840 only seems to allow the single press function to be set, which means if set to screen advance the gear changing function is lost.

Am I missing something?

Update, having dwelled on this a little longer I suspect the limitation may be the blip itself which may only be able to  deliver a short press only.

  • Thanks, the link refers to the new SRAM lever auxillary buttons and doesn't really help with the wireless blips

  • Considering to get axs wireless blips for just doing that. Did you find any confirmation that they do not support press&hold and thus can be only set up as a short press (i.e. 1 ant+ function per blip instead of 2)? Thanks!

  • Only by trial and error. Also the SRAM app only seems to show the single press option so I'm guessing the limitation is the blip itself, only capable of delivering a single short pulse.

  • I had asked Shane (GPLama) under his recent video on Edge x40 2.16 FW and he replied instantly that wireless beeps only do the short press because this was the way Garmin were able to squeeze 4-7 years battery life out of the blips - just by restricting to the very low power activity such as a short press compared to press&hold.

In my scenario, using Edge 840, I'd need to fork out $100 just to have either the screen forth & back, which is not exactly a good VFM. I initially wanted to set up one of the blips to do the Pause/Resume workout toggle, but that being Garmin and in absence of a proof that somebody has been able to set it up like that, I am not willing to take the risk and get disappointed.

Anyways, just wanted to circle back and share that your empirical findings are correct. Cheers!

Edit:  Also found an old article on BikeRadar.com saying:

"The Wireless Blips differ from the wired Blips and standard shift paddles in that they have a “momentary press” only. You press, and it fires off a single “click” for a single shift…for now.

Meaning, for now, you can’t hold it down for multi shifts, and that’s to save battery life so you’re not holding it down for long periods of time. Which means it also won’t work with the Reverb AXS since the dropper post requires a longer push-and-hold to give it time to drop…for now.

SRAM says a future firmware update will allow it to work with the AXS dropper seatpost and execute multi-shifts, but no definitive timeline is announced."

Looks like the FW allowing the multi-click is in "future plans" indefinitely!
