not enough internal memory for software update

so, I hit the following catch 22 situation:

When trying to update the device software on my edge 840 via Garmin Express I get the error message, that the device has not enough internal memory.

Based on the suggestions I tried to use the map manager and get rid of the not needed maps, e.g. NA and Trails.

HOWEVER, when I try to do this, Express tells me, a software upgrade is needed first, before I can use the map manager and stops the process.

This puts me back to square 1.

According OSX Finder, the edge has 3 MB free space left on the device.

That sounds like some files have been deleted using the Mac and that the trash has not been deleted. With the Edge connected to the Mac empty the trash. That will remove any files deleted using the Mac that are currently just hidden so that they can be restored.

the trash had been emptied, so that can't be the cause. I just reconnected the Edge to my Mac and checked the device info: It says - capacity 31.05GB and available 25KB

I might be trying to factory reset the edge to clear out everything. I did similar before, but resynced my old profile data.

so, did a complete device reset (I am on V21.09). Have now 25MB space available on the Edge. However, the update (V21.11) requires 33,4MB free space.

What maps do you have installed?

got my device used and the prev. owner had all of them installed. I did not mind to dated, but now ... ;) If I knew the file names from the maps, I'd manually delete them via PC. As I am in Europe (Germany) I don't need any from North America and also the trail maps. Riding road only.

What you could do is copy one of the map files to the PC delete it from the Edge to free up enough space to do the software update. Copy the file back and then use the map manager to delete the NA maps.

If you do want to do it manually.

The ClimbPro data base files for Americas are in the

Garmin\SQL\internal folder

The maps files for the Americas are in the Garmin folder
