Any idea why my smart trainer isn't being found by my 840?

I've got a Merach TT smart trainer that's easily picked up by most cycling apps (Zwift, MyWhoosh, etc.) but not my 840.

I've tried pairing it through the sensor menu and the training > smart trainer menu, and the 840 doesn't even see it.

The trainer doesn't use ANT+ but Bluetooth, and I've made sure to unpair it from all apps before trying, but nothing.

Any ideas?

  • Garmin products currently only support ANT+ for trainer pairing.

  • Ah, I figured that. I was hoping that since it can pair with BT sensors, it might work with a trainer that uses BT. Thanks for the quick reply.

  • it is not a controllable trainer, it is a dumb stationary bike with "smart" function (so a big lie by advertisement). better to NOT pairing to Zwift (will be everything unrealistic, the ingame speed, the feeling, everythinh) or to anything else, watch tv or YT videos during your session. if you wanna good indoor experience, do not use it, and get a true smart (controllable/interactive) indoor bike/indoor trainer . (these cheap stationary bikes just extra heavy metal junks...)

No doubt that it would be a better experience, but that would be out of my price range and use case. This one does what I need it to do, and it was rather inexpensive, so it doesn't have to be fancy. I was hoping to record rides directly through my 840, but I'm fine doing it through any of the supported apps and export to Garmin Connect.

I'd rather be on a real bike anyway, TBH Slight smile This just fills in a gap for when I can't.
