Fit files not always saved on Garmin Edge 840 SW 20.19

Lately when I save a ride the fit file does not always get saved to the Activities directory on the device, nor does it show up on the "Last Ride" widget and it is not synced to garmin connect. The fit file is correctly recorded however and is available in the TempFIT directory on the device from where I can manually upload it directly to Garmin Connect or other services. So there is no corruption or anything, there is just something in the save process going wrong.

I have tried to cleanup older activities in the Activities directory but that didn't stop this issue from occurring.

I'm confident that I save the ride correctly and I have a feeling it mostly happens to longer rides. It also seems that it started ocurring right after upgrading to SW 20.19. Is anyone else having this issue, or even better, is there a fix for this?

I also am having this issue and my Garmin edge 540 Solar has the 20.19 update. I used it to record a very long ride and saved it at the end only to have it disappear when I went to sync it with Garmin…

Hello, I have the same problem as you, luckily I read you and was able to recover it in the TempFIT folder. It is disappointing to pay for a very expensive device and then have this type of failure.

Did it disappear completely or still uploaded to Garmin Connect without GPS data? In my case it was uploaded to Garmin Connect but without GPS data. All other data still exists though.

I wish I can go back…

I haven't had the issue on my 1040 Solar in at least a month. I'm on the latest beta. Unsure if Garmin has resolved the issue but judging by the fact that I haven't experienced it in 15+ rides, I'm hoping it has been sorted.

Go to connect.garmin.com then click the watch icon in the upper right corner. Select your Edge device then choose to enroll in the beta. I'm on firmware 21.14.

As always, use betas at your own risk, though the experience has been good for me so far. Could potentially just use the betas until some final release firmware updates come out then opt out.

It also seems to effect my 3+ hr rides, not anything that's only 90min or less. Maybe that's not what others are experiencing, but figured I throw it out there.

I did a 4 hour ride today and have recently done a few 2+ hour rides. No issues here with the latest betas so far

I’m having the same issue. Has happened twice on 20.19. I really hope Garmin has better SQA than this on their stuff like flight avionics software

Is this problem fixed with SW update 21.16?

There seem to be lot of fixes in the update, but I couldn't find one related to the bug(s) described in this discussion.

I haven't had this issue in over a month on betas. I think it may have been resolved several betas ago without Garmin making any mention of it in the changelogs, however this is just speculation.

Confirming that I'm on 21.16 on my Edge 1040 Solar. I have not experienced the issue in quite some time.

Just downloaded the 21.16. didn't see our issues mentioned in the release notes.

Same for me, since I moved to beta (and now final release) I haven’t had this issue anymore.
