available space on the 840 device

Hi. I have a new 840 and notice that of the 28.9GB of space on the device there is only 1.4GB available and the device is in 'the red' from the get-go. Is this normal?

Same here. Normal IMO.

If you keep all the maps for Europe and the Americas that are pre-installed on the unit, then yes.

How do you delete them. No maps are showing on my garmin express?

You can delete them on PC with Garmin Express.

Can not as they do not appear on garmin express...

No, not normal. My Garmin (non-solar which has has half the memory of the solar) came pre-loaded with Central, Western and Eastern Europe and is only two thirds full. North plus South America will only take up half. You need maps from more than one continent to get anywhere near full.

First try to re-install the maps. Map Details for each region, then Options.

Next try a hard reset of the device.

Didier-Martin How do you know you have maps if they are not showing in Express?
