Would you still buy an Edge 830 (new, from official dealer) today if it were 20-25% cheaper than the non-solar Edge 840 (also new, from official dealer)?

I had been considering upgrading my 830 to a 1040 but am currently waiting until one of the major issues with the XX40 series is sorted out. it seems that for the more than 1 year now if you record a ride…
My main concern regarding the 840 are:
1. Wifi not working. Was this just an early stage issue after release, which has been resolved by now with updates?

My main concern regarding the 840 are:
1. Wifi not working. Was this just an early stage issue after release, which has been resolved by now with updates?
2. Potential fragility of the replaceable mounting tabs on the back (there are photos of the mounts breaking, screw falling out) and loose fit in the mounts.
3. The charging port cover easily removing itself (sloppy fit)
4. Freeze/lag & rebooting during activities?
1. WiFi works
2. No problems, I ride MTB and road with it.
3. Never found the cover open on my unit. It's just a dust cover anyway, the port itself is waterproof.
4. Haven't experienced that.
Thanks, I really appreciate it :)
I had an 820 and skipped the 830, so can't compare the two. My first Edge was a 705 I got in 2010. I never had an Edge that wasn't half baked. Even at the end of life after all the updates, they still didn't work right. For each, I had to learn different work arounds, or simply ignore the many issues. So yeah, the 840 has issues, but that's par for the course.
What's your biggest issue with the 840?
I had been considering upgrading my 830 to a 1040 but am currently waiting until one of the major issues with the XX40 series is sorted out. it seems that for the more than 1 year now if you record a ride on your XX40 whilst passively wearing a Garmin watch with UTS compatibility, in my case a Fenix 7, then the calorie count recorded by the Edge gets wiped out when the activity is synced with the watch.
I wear my watch 24/7, so that's a deal breaker for me. I have no such issue or indeed any issue with my Edge 830. The new version of Climb Pro would be nice, but to answer your question, I would still buy an 830 under those conditions.,
The loose port cover is almost comical! It's quite possibly the worst designed port cover I have ever seen. Ride over a bump and it literally pops open.
UPDATE: Got the 840, mounting tabs are solid (no wiggle), and I quite like it (only one test ride so far). But I'm a bit confused by the display. It was supposed to be the same as the 830 (I have the regular non-solar 840), but somehow it's less glossy, colors seem a bit more washed out (comparing them with the backlight on). When turned off, the 830 screen is dark (almost black), while the 840 screen is much lighter. That's one aspect where I preferred the 840, tbh
