Rather than focusing on the fact that for many of us wifi does not work, maybe we can look at this the other way around and describe what does work.
If wifi is working on your device i.e. with phone connectivity turned off you can check for updates, sync, use Strava segment explorer etc., please reply with your wifi router or access point make and model, and pertinent setup information about how your wifi is set up if you know it (security type used, channels, etc.)
Worst case, we could just buy a second router to use only to enable the Garmin device to connect to wifi, if we know one that absolutely positively does work.
