How to Ride a bike with Edge (Activity Tracker) and Fenix (Just as a Watch)

I track my bike rides with my Garmin Edge using a chest-strap and various other sensors. I still wear the watch at the same time. I just want to see the time on my wrist though. The watch still produces all kinds of spurious data, like steps and so on, which I do not want.

How do you approach this problem? I would rather not fiddle around a long time before and after the ride to pause and continue this or that service. I also don't want to record a ride on the watch just to discard it afterwards.

I also posted this in the Fenix Forum: forums.garmin.com/.../how-to-ride-a-bike-with-edge-activity-tracker-and-fenix-just-as-a-watch

  • This is a long-time bug with watches.  I just ignore the steps and stair data on days when I ride or run. They're not the most reliable of data anyway. I often hit my steps goal whilst driving or typing, for example.  If you have an inactive lifestyle, steps and stairs can still be useful metrics as you transition from spending your life on the sofa. But as soon as you start doing proper exercise, these data are not particularly useful or relevant, as the workout is far more significant.  So it's a bug I can live with.
