Edge 840 for Hiking - Please create a profile Garmin?

Can a specific profile be created so the Edge 840 can fully function as a Hike/Walking device? I have fudged the in-built Mountain Bike profile for walking but its not perfect...wondered if Garmin could add a specific Hiking profile which sets the correct GPS drift, caters for lower walk speeds etc? I know there are specific Garmin "hiking" handheld GPS devices out there but for the money i have invested in this device it would be a welcome addition for the odd time i jump out of the saddle and use my feet! C'mon Garmin create us a Hiking profile for the Edge 840/1040 series?

Yep. Would be handy. Way back I used my Edge devices for hiking but nowadays just use my phone as I have that with me anyway. Some apps will cache maps so no cell connection is needed for nav.

Totally agree it would be nice for the Edge to fully support a hike profile.

But, no reason you can't create your own hike profile. It won't add it to GC as a hike, however you can change the activity type in GC after you are done. The biggest annoyance is I don't think there are Pace fields. You could find Connect IQ fields that do that though. I wouldn't worry about GPS differences. With current GPS tech, I doubt you'd notice a difference taking the 840 vs an Epix Pro with you. I regularly take my Edge with me on hikes and walks and get great results.

The alternative is to use a full CIQ app like Hike2+. That has its own significant limitations like I don't think it has a native map page, just a bread crumb map page. And no navigating courses. https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/116a5b59-29ae-4397-a70e-907d7e5f8e44

The other app that may give you everything you want is Komoot but I haven't used that on the Edge devices.

I was just searching for a way to do this on my new device. Didn't realize until this very moment that the 840 does not accommodate hiking.
