Starting dropping my ANT+ power meter last week.

Last week, my 840 started dropping and connecting my ANT+ power meter about every 15 seconds.  It had been working since I got the 840 in April this year, including with ver 18.25.   Prior, it had worked reliably with my 820 for 4 years.  I tried removing it and adding it a number of times and it made no difference.  I reinstalled the firmware in the PM, removed and added it to the 840, and still no difference.  It does work if I connect it via BT rather than ANT+, so that is a workaround.  Still, I wonder what going on with ANT+.  PM is a Zwatt Yding.

  • Update: After working fine for months on ANT+, a couple of weeks ago my PM started repeatedly dropping again on ANT+ so I switched to BT. Then two rides ago, my PM locked on 777W and 77rpm for the last 5 minutes of a ride.  The next day I connected it to its phone app and it was still showing 777 and 77.  Charging it had no effect.  I reinstalled its firmware and that fixed it.  It also stayed connected on ANT+ on my last ride.  As a reminder, previously when it was dropping on ANT+ with the 840, it still worked fine on my 820 with ANT+ (820 doesn't do BT sensors).  I haven't reached any conclusion as to what's going on.

  • Besides the weak Edge ANT signal quality, i think it is Zwatt issue, fw or hw, so i suggest to write to the Zwatt is there any possibility to remote diagnostic via the Zwatt app or similar.

  • now i remember, the Wahoo Kickr made such a frozen power/cad value in the past via BT in Zwift midride (but somebody had it via ANT+ too, and in other apps too, like TR). i assume the firmware was the culprit and the Wahoo fixed it, because todays i dont read such a problem on forums.

if the Edge's comm chip would have problem and "frozen", then there is no other sensor datas aswell (neither on ANT+)

  • My FSA PowerBox (Power2Max) PM does not connect to my 840. Worked fine on my 830. Tested today with the 840 and my Fenix 6X. Same ride, same PM, connected fine to the Fenix, no connection for more than 2 seconds on the 840. Removed the sensor, and when adding back it doesn't find the ANT signal at all - I have to connect through BLE. Connection drops after 2 seconds. Sensor detail screen shows sensor power on, but it won't stay connected or show any data.

  • did You update the powerbox firmware to the latest via Power2Max app? it should work flawlessly, i have 3 NGs (and i am a P2M beta tester also) , and all work with 830,840, FR965 via ANT+. (simultanously it can connect to unlimited head units)

  • I’m having this problem too with my Rotor power meter. The ANT+ connection drops and reconnects at seemingly random intervals during my entire ride. The only time the connection seems stable is when I’m not on my aero bars but am sitting up instead. Makes me wonder if there’s an issue with my 840 reading the signals from both my Rotor and my HRM-Pro strap.

  • I started having dropouts also the past week or so on my Power2Max powermeter.
Sporadic over the ride you just see the cadence goes to zero and then power is gone.  3-6 seconds later is starts up again.

    20.19 software version.

  • try the 21.09 beta (opt-in), the sensor signal strength is much stronger (what is the firmware in your P2M? is it NG series or older TypeS?) depending on the length of the datadrop, could be ANT+ interference (3s) and Edge comm chip reset (6s)

  • Yes, latest firmware. 840 doesn't even see the ANT signal. I have to connect by BLE. I've removed the sensor, rebooted, and tried to add again several times. The 840 doesn't "find" the PM unless I check "show Bluetooth sensors". It then picks it up.

  • Is it already paired over ANT, but that pairing is disabled?
