Edge 840 messes up heart rate zones, recovery time, training load, etc., when used to record an activity and synced to Forerunner 255

I did two cycling activities today - my first two with an Edge bike computer. Till now I've only used my Garmin watch to record bikes, so I never faced these issues. I set my Forerunner to primary training device before all this and transmitted HR to my edge using the watch.

First RideFor some reason, Garmin decided not to use any of my heart rate and zone settings that I set up for my watch, and instead used its own zones for some reason. Fine; they were not terribly off, so I decided to put up with it. So I synced my Edge to Garmin connect and then my Forerunner and then my Edge again, hoping to get a proper unified training status and other variables. Now the watch (probably more accurately) estimated a recovery time of 32 hours, but the Edge 840 was stuck at 9 hours no matter what. I synced both devices again and again, but nothing seemed to work. So I let it be again, because anyway my watch had the right data so it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Then I went into the Edge 840 settings on Garmin Connect and set up my heart rate zones manually based on %HRR as I had done before for my watch.

Second Ride: This time, Garmin went completely haywire. After the ride, Garmin assumed my resting heart rate was zero and did the calculations for HR zones, training load, etc. Why?! What is happening? My watch is literally there and it's the one transmitting live heart rate data and it's the same account! Do I have to enter my resting heart rate into Edge on a daily basis? Not only that, this time while syncing all the statistics - the recovery time of then 34 hours on the watch got discarded and replaced by a new figure of 18 hours - because the Edge computer had neither synchronised anything after the first ride properly - not could it pull data well before the second ride.

I went into HR settings and checked - and there's no way to turn on auto detect resting heart rate, and the field is blank. I LITERALLY HAVE A GARMIN WATCH THAT HAS A RESTING HEART RATE SAVED ON MY GARMIN ACCOUNT.

This is utter chaos - why would I use a 500€ device that can't do a basic synchronisation from a watch of the same company?! Is there any fix for this, or is this what everyone's somehow putting up with?
