840 (Non Solar) Rebooted/Restarted during session

Was near the end of 3+ hour 40 mile MTB ride, nearing the trail head and looked down to see the 840 fully rebooting showing the initial battery level (84%) and normal messages.  Rebooted to the current ride in Stop mode (i.e. red border and flag button to finish).  Hit the button and seemed to save the whole ride as normal - *SO* thankful it didn't lose the ride!!

See that a similar bug reported but specific to the Solar 840 - guessing now its not?

  • I had the same error on a +110km trip, luckily no data was lost.

Just before the reboot the error message "not enough memory" comes up on the display - but the Edge 840 was in normal naviagation mode.

  • pls (both of you) post here the content of the error.log (err_log.txt if i remember right ) from the Edge unit (that contains what part of the code was the problem and caused reboot)

  • same issue today, err_log is empty but the bak (opened in text file) contains:

  • err_log.txt under Debug is empty. And in the err_log.bak file there is no error on the corresponding day of the mentioned error.

  • did You transfer your activity profiles from a previous Garmin unit or did You set it up manually (as i always prefer for everybody, do not use auto-transfer or any auto-things )? If it was auto, delete the actual profile(s) and create a new with the same settings manually (i suggest to make photos about data pages and settings, easier to reconfigure everything from a picture imho)

  • My edge was configured as a new device - did not have an edge before, only the sensors were automatically taken over from my fenix setting.

  • Same error again, yesterday during a tour. Restart of the Edge without warning this time.
I can't find a current error.log in the debug directory, but there is an entry in the backup.

  • had the same issue multiple times within the last 3 weeks

  • Hi,

I got the same problem several times in the last weeks.

as well when I finished a ride and save it. Reboot for no reason.

what can I do? Any solution?

    cheers

    Basti

  • Same behavior with the current firmware, in the middle of the planned round is again the error. This time only no reboot but a shutdown - had do restart the Edge840 manually and could finish the planned tour.

Garmin - when can we expect a fix?
