I emailed Garmin support, I was told they didn't have a replacement tab plate. I wasn't told if they will have anything in the near future or if they have had anything in the past... they did however offer up a reasonable or amicable solution, kind of a pain but reasonable enough.
I also emailed Silca to see if they would 3d print a plate.... Silca followed up with "haven't thought about yet and I will run in by our enginerees"
my advice would be to contact Garmin support and see what they have to say... and just a FYI if you do contact Garmin take a few pictures of the back of the head unit.... I'm sure they are trying to figure out what and how they are failing.
I contacted Garmin about this issue.
They do not have this part for sale and only offered me to replace the entire unit with a new one for half of the price.
Which means they want to sell me small piece of plastic for 250 euros.
Good joke
So the only solution for now is 3d printing...
I can't speak to Jbator situation but for mine, the euros (us dollar in my case) is a deposit and is returned to you once they get the old unit back. it is a warrantee claim not a discount on a new unit.
I too am confused as to why there are no replacement plate parts, but I have to believe they are coming up with a solution. giving new unit's as a fix for the "replaceable" plate can't be economically viable to Garmin.
In my case I broke this plate in a crash so they told my warranty is void...
My bad I told them this was a crash.
However it wasn't big. Just hit the unit with my hand and it fell off the mount. Nothing special and will happen again for sure.
So this part is very weak and should be available as accessory if it is interchangeable...
yeah, mine broke when I put it on the mount. Pretty disappointing,
if memory serves the 1040 has been on the market for a while now (and that has a replaceable plate?), I can't believe they don't even have replacement plates for that unit.... I'm going to guess this will be a persistent thorn in their side. whether it's supplier quality, resin mix or just straight up design/testing missteps, Garmin will have to figure something out pretty soon, as I don't think this problem will just go away with the way it's done now.
