Can you display hours as large as minutes on timers?

Since getting my 840 (which I love) I noticed that all the timer displays now make hours very small numbers; the display now seems to have large minutes and seconds (MM:SS), but the hour is tiny, to the point of being nearly unreadable. I do most of my rides over 1 hour in duration and I don’t care about elapsed seconds. I really want to see HH:MM.

Is there an option anywhere to change back to the HH:MM display of yore?

Thanks.

  • There maybe a CIQ data field that does this, otherwise you can reconfigure the layout of the data screen to make the timer data field a full screen width data field. This should stop the hour switching to use a superscript.

  • I never tried it, but there is a ConnectIQ with a datafield to bring back the old timer, called ‘OldTimer’ ( https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/12553a0d-0ae8-416b-9e07-4e7480ad6588 )

  • I found it on the Connect IQ store. Thanks for the lead. I’ve installed it and see if it works on my next ride. Many thanks!

Is there any way of doing this without using a connectiq data field?   I have 10 data fields.  It's annoying with the really small 1 or 2 for hours.    I don't care about seconds.  My 530 didn't behave like this.

  • Hours will stay full sized in a full width data field

  • it is a hidden visual acuity test (by Garmin) to check the user's eye sharpness. So if You dont see it easily, your eye is bad! Blush

Honestly , i have no problem with it (and i am not young already...), i can read it easily, but i know by closed eye how long am i out there as i know by closed eye how much power am i holding exactly within a +-10w range (i do my power interval trainings too without "Frooming", so i dont watch the display all the time, only periodically as a self-control)

But probably (i really hope) in the newer firmwares the Garmin will make the datafield layouts much more configurable (letter size and style, layout, color , etc)

  • Garmin, please let give the user the option to choose whether seconds will be shown or not.
Most simple way. Offer 2 different data fields.

  • Old timer works. But there are a lot of other fields having the same issue.
Just yesterday I hopped into the trap with time to destination.
I had a look and thought this could not be the case.
Then I realised the very small "1".
To be honest, this is so small, that it does not make sense in any case.
I would propose either to show seconds only in the wide field or offer to type of fields for the small option.
