Cannot connect to sensors after pause

After a ride of around 100 km, I took an 1 hour pause with Edge 840 today. After the pause, it refused to connect to my speed sensor, my HRMPro+, and my powermeter. It was able to connect to the speed sensor and the powermeter after a while, but refused to connect to the HRMPro+ until the end of my ride.

My Fenix 6 had no trouble connecting to all sensors at any time.

Did someone experience something similar with their Edge device and has a solution for that behavior?

  • I vaguely recall a transient bug fitting this description on the Edge 1040, about a year ago - as it happened to me. I thought they'd squashed that one but perhaps it's back. (and since the codebase is shared between these units, you might see it here)

Hoping for some more reports on this. Well, rather I'd hope there are NO other reports of it but if it is a problem I'd like Garmin to acknowledge it. In the meantime: do a hard reset of your device and FORGET all of your sensors. Re-add them manually. That has been known to fix some sensor issues.

  • Same here, stop ride for coffee, sleep edge, wake it 30 mins later and sensors not connected. Happens randomly i.e. not every time

  • Same problem yesterday. First ride with a new unit, freshly connected sensors (not transferred by GC). Sensors did not connect after waking up from sleep. I had to remove the sensors, restart the device and add them again.

  • this issue already exist on the 830. I do not know if Garmin stop detecting sensors after a while and miss to re-initialize after a break.

  • I actually just had this happen yesterday to me. I took restarting the device in the middle of the ride for it work again.
