Display dims almost immediately and overlaid with two vertical bars. What gives?

New to the 840. The display dims almost immediately and is overlaid by two vertical bars.  It’s maddening.

What do those bars mean?

how do I keep the screen from auto dimming immediately?

  • What you see is the device's behavior when going into "Auto Pause" mode. Like it or not, but cannot be changed by a setting on the device. Must be solved in a next software upgrade.
Also the Edge 1040 series and the Edge Explore 2 suffer the same issue, the 540 I don't know.

  • Yep.  If you mean a square in the middle of the screen with two vertical bars in it, that's PAUSE.  It will pause when stationary if AUTO PAUSE is enabled and you have started an activity by pressing the start/stop button.  It goes away when in motion.  You can also turn AUTO PAUSE off and it won't appear when stopped, unless you press the START/STOP button to manual pause the device.
