What do you think about screen protectors made of glass?

Hi, I bought an additional screen protector for my new Edge 840, which is made of tempered glass. It does not have any bad influence on the touch screen so far.

However, what do you think about tempered glass as a screen protector in contrast to a simple protective and flexible lamination sheet or film? In former times, I used such a sheet without any complains for my 830. But now I switched over to tempered glass, which might be more risky when it comes to crashes, downfalls or the like.

  • I used glass protectors on my phone and 830. Glass is way smoother than film. I have never crashed my 830 within its screen part (but chassis yes). Instead, I have dropped my phone several times and the glass protector did ita job well, as the protector was cracked instead of the screen.

  • Edge's screen is not scratch resistant at all. Any screen protector is better than none

  • Starting with a 705 in 2010 and except for a few very minor scratches haven't yet consequentially scratched a screen.  That's about 50/50% road and mtb so plenty of dirt/mud/grit.  I have broken a screen a few times, but nothing a screen protector would have prevented.  With past units, the screens were pretty poor readability wise so didn't want to do anything that might make it even slightly worse.  840 screen is much better, but based on previous experience, won't be using a screen protector.

  • Well, the tempered glass I bought is absolutely clear. And it slighty reduces reflections. Hence, the usability of the Edge 840 is at least not deteroriated. This glass is comparable to the glasses used for smart phone displays. Even on my iPhone 13 Pro I do use such a glass in order to protect the screen from scratches. Although Apple uses its so called Ceramic Shield, scratches cannnot be absolutely prevented from occurring.

  • I’ve got a tempered glass on my 840 and there’s no difference on the sensitivity at all. I’d much rather have this than the screen becoming scratched.

  • I had a tempered glass protector on past devices - no issues.

For the 840, I went with a matte finish polycarbonate. It dulls the display a bit (because "matte") but reduces glare significantly. I trust that to protect my screen more so than either glass or plastic screen protectors. I've had no issues with touch sensitivity.

  • Does anyone know whether the Edge 830 screen protectors fit the new Edge 840? I am struggling to find an 840 protector in my country but the 830 protectors are widely available.

  • Edge 830 is much smaller. So it doesnt fit

I ordered my protector for 840 from AliExpress
