Would it be possible to pair Edge 840 with watchOS 10 in future times?

I am using an Apple Watch Series 7 Cellular.

With watchOS 10 it will be possible to directly connect BT bike sensors with the Apple Watch. Will this also be possible with Edge devices like the 840? I often go for a ride without my iPhone. Hence, messages received with my Apple Watch Cellular can not be displayed on the Edge. Therefore, it would be a real benefit if an Apple Watch and an Edge device can be paired in future times. Not even for messages but also for music control and weather syncronization.

Somewhere between "highly unlikely" and "no chance in ***."

Apple already locks out this type of bidirectional communication between iPhone and every sport watch (Garmin, Polar, Suunto, Coros) in favour of their own AppleWatch integration.

Apple wants people to buy into their ecosystem and has no interest in supporting competitors beyond the minimum necessary to not become a liability to them.

  • Well, it already works in combination with iOS on an iPhone. So, why should it not work in combination with watchOS in future times. In addition, Apple will open watchOS 10 for third party BT sensors. Okay, even if it will not be possible for a bidirectional communication, it can at least be possible for an unidirectional communication from Apple Watch to Garmin Edge.
