840 solar stats

840 solar gain doesn't seem very logical. Let's compare a few rides.

On May 27th, after cycling for 4 hours, I gained 1 hour and 10 minutes, but according to the Garmin Connect graph, it only started increasing after 2 hours and 40 minutes:

On May 28th, after cycling for 13 hours, I only gained 1 hour and 42 minutes:

Last Saturday after cycling for 11 hours and 30 minutes, I gained 1 hour and 49 minutes, but it only started increasing after 6 hours:

And on Sunday, I cycled for 10 hours and 30 minutes but only gained 1 hour and 13 minutes:

All four days were relatively sunny (with clear skies most of the time), but there doesn't seem to be a logical explanation for why the first ride gained so much compared to the other three rides.

  • I experience the same, doesn’t seem logical. Often the summary graph starts showing an increase in ride time a couple of hours into the ride, even though weather stayed the same for the whole ride duration (sunny, no clouds at all).

that’s just one example. Would be interesting to see if there is an explanation or something?

  • Same here. Weird solar graph on Garmin Connect website, and the total gain is roughly 80% on website as on the solar page of the head unit.
