Edge 840 Solar - Using in another country

I live in Buffalo NY and will be taking a bike tour in Italy on May 25. Will my Edge 840 work or do I need to enable some different map profile? Same question for Livetrack.

    The map needs to be installed and enabled. 

    One way to verify that is to pan the map to where your trip is and zoom in to see if map details are displayed. 

    The 840 should already have the map you need installed (and enabled).

    Live track should just work (if your phone has cellular data access).

    The EU map comes in 3 parts. I would install just the part that covers the region you are going to.

    The 840 has enough space for the maps you currently have and one part of the Europe. If you want more coverage you will need to only install parts of the Americas so as to free up some space.

    Does Garmin install one of the 3 or none of them?

    An alternative is to download a map for just the region you need from bbbike.

    This much-smaller map will certainly fit.

    It’s a tiny-bit confusing the first time but not really that hard. 

    Pick any of the Garmin options but be sure to use a “Latin” map.

    You’ll have need to be comfortable disabling/enabling maps (which also isn’t hard). You don’t want to have overlapping maps both enabled.
