Connecting Edge 840 to Apple Watch Ultra

Anyone know if Garmin is planning on opening up the BT connectivity on the Edge series? My goal is to leave the phone at home and just use my Apple Watch Ultra for connectivity to my Edge 840. I play music from my Apple Watch (would be nice to control from my Edge), capture my HR from my Apple Watch (currently via WATCHLINK), AND, would like to sync all my riding metrics to Garmin Connect via my Apple Watch (maybe from a Garmin Connect watch app?). I can't be the only user that would like to see this feature. Anyone know anything about this?

That won't be happening. This is all down to Apple who don't want to play nice with other companies and want to keep Apple users in the Apple ecosystem.

Garmin uses standard protocols. Apple does not.

I agree it may not happen but you are not correct about "Apple protocols." There is a Connect app on my iPhone that connects to my Edge 840 with no issues via Bluetooth. These are "protocols" used between these two devices and they work fine. This isn't a technical issue, it's a business decision.

There are standard Bluetooth fitness protocols or things like heart rate monitors (and all other fitness sensors) that all other HRMs use so they connect connect to fitness watches/bike computers/etc. Apple do no let their watch use it so it connects as a HRM to anything else natively. That is what I meant by standard protocols, the ones used by every other fitness sensor. Of course it is a business decision by Apple.

Again, this isn't a technical issue. The Edge connects to the iPhone Connect app with no issues AND there isn't ANYTHING ANT+ about that connection. This is a business decision by Garmin. PERIOD. I get it, Garmin has a nice watch and the Apple watch is competition. Just wish they would play nice together.

ANT+ has nothing to do with Bluetooth. ANT+ is a wireless protocol controlled by Garmin via the Ant Initiative, not a standard protocol. We actually don't know if it's Apple that doesn't want to implement ANT+ in their watch or Garmin not allowing them to as they're in direct competition.

Come on man, what are you talking about?! Bluetooth is an INDUSTRY standard that Apple happens to use, ANT is owned by Garmin, they are both wireless protocols. Stop trying to make this a technical issue, IT IS NOT. Yes this is about competition.

I think the only way this would happen is if Garmin made an Apple Watch app - and thats probably not happening anytime soon. I also dont see it going the other way where Apple broadcasts HR as an open standard. They want everything coming in, not going out. Using an Apple Watch is going to mean 3rd party apps for a while longer.

I've been using the Watch Link Pod for the last month or so and really like it. It's a little device that makes the HR on the Apple Watch appear to my Edge 840 as an ANT+ connection.
