Edge 840 not syncing with phone unless on wifi

JoLankester Do you have an iPhone? If so, could you check to see if there is an iOS update needed and apply an update if necessary?

To check: Go to Settings > General > Software Update

Ah no, I've got a Google Pixel 7 Pro, running android version 13

JoLankester ensure the Garmin Connect Mobile app is up to date and your Edge is on the latest version of firmware (9.29). 

If you have continued Bluetooth connectivity issues with your phone and Edge, it might be best to call in to your local Garmin Support team for real-time assistance to ensure that feature is working before race day.

Garmin connect was syncing for 2 days , but stopped syncing again. Restarted the 840, turned Bluetooth on and off, but neither helped.

Then I restarted my phone and it synced.

Hoping I don't have to restart my phone each time I want to sync

Thanks Garmin-Amy, I'll have a go at that when I'm back from my weekend riding! 

One thing that folks might find useful is a hacky workaround - if you've got enough phone signal for a hotspot, connecting the Garmin to it, and then choosing "WiFi sync" from the connectivity tab under menu (on the Garmin) works immediately for me.

Was the Garmin Connect app restarted before you restarted your phone? 

Ugh, I had this issue on my 830. I hope it doesn’t happen again on the 840 l. 

No, I didn't try that.  Will try that next time before restarting my phone.

Well, my 840 stopped syncing again after working for several rides.  I tried everything to get it to sync again (restarting garmin connect, turning blutetooth off/onn, restarting my phone, hitting sync under my phone on the 840, etc).  Nothing worked.

So far, the only thing that fixes the issue is removing my 840 from Garmin Connect, forgetting my phone in bluetooth devices, removing my phone from my 840, and re-pairing everything.
