Edge 840 not syncing with phone unless on wifi

Hi there,

I have an Edge 840 and a Google Pixel 7 Pro. Unfortunately, I can't get the Edge 840 to connect to my phone unless I'm on a wifi network and completely restart my phone. GarminConnect app can see the Edge 840, but the sync doesn't work.

Anyone else having this problem, and anyone know how to fix? I'm training for an ultra distance race and am often without wifi, so it's a real issue if this won't ever work as I can't change a route on my phone on the fly and send it to the device.

Thanks!

Jo

  • Sorry to hear you're having issues syncing your Edge with the App over Bluetooth. You could try these steps to remove the Edge connection from your phone and the app, then re-pair to see if that helps refresh the connection.

  • I have a somewhat similar issue. The pairing between the Edge 840 and iPhone 13 Pro was done the first day I got the 840. Since then, I would say 9 out of 10 rides I did with the 840, the activity would take forever to upload to Garmin Connect. From the Garmin Connect app, I could see the app was connected with the 840 but it simply would not upload the activity until I had restarted GC multiple times. If I force the 840 to sync via WiFi, the activity would get uploaded immediately.

  • Hi Amy, I think that's worked - I've done a test route at home and it uploaded straight away with WiFi turned off. I'm in the Lake District with limited signal this weekend so that will be the real test Slight smileSlight smile

  • Removing and then re-pairing the Edge 840 to Garmin Connect also appears to have fixed my issue. I have done two rides since doing that and the activities were synced immediately.

  • I've removed and readded my Garmin 840  to Garmin connect and I still cannot upload. But it uploads if I click sync Wi-Fi from the Garmin. Is removing it from Garmin connect and re-adding it not enough? Or do I need to forget and re-pair the Garmin via Bluetooth to my phone?

  • yes, delete it from the phone's BT menu also. (i had the same issue, now it is working since 3-4 days, i'm testing it so the wifi is off on purpose)

  • In my case it's the WiFi not working. It detects and adds the networks but doesn't work. Need to pair it with connect.

  • Ok, I removed the 840 from Garmin Connect, un-paired it with my phone, removed my phone from the 840, and also removed my WI-FI network from the 840.

I then re-added the 840 to Garmin Connect and went through the process.  And I am now able to sync successfully.

I'll later as my WI-FI network back after it continues to work for a while.  Hopefully adding my WI-FI network doesn't cause the issue to occur again!

  • Unfortunately, this worked for 2 rides and has stopped working again. Do you have any other suggestions for what I could try? I'm doing an ultra distance race in 4 weeks and I'm worried about how unreliable the unit is right now!

  • Same here. I hope Garmin will solve this problem soon!!!

removing garmin from GC and BT on iPhone helped but I wonder for how long…
