Water around the USB Socket

After a 3 hour Road-ride in the rain, i noticed water around the usb socket after the ride. I checked several times during the ride, that it was tight in the right position….so it fits not 100% and its much to loose .

Can you please take a closer look during your next rides in the rain to see if you have something similar?  please share your experiences….if there ar more users with water under the usb protection, could be a serious problem…

  • usb port on 840 is watertight, like on modern smartphones. so don't be worried. Just don't plug the cable, as long as there water in the socket

  • thank you for this important information! may i ask how you know that, please don't take it personally, but that's important when it comes to water and electronics. is this information available at garmin? watertight could also mean protected by the shield?

  • Would you be able to share any more details on how you were using the 840 on this ride? Were you using a tether? Was it raining or was your edge fully submerged? Any additional details would be appreciated.

  • Garmin-Blake, no tether. The edge 840 was attached in front of my road bike handlebars with an aero mount. It rained about 3 hours. During the ride I checked the cap several times for tightness, it felt really pushed in. The edge was never submerged

  • According to DC Rainmaker, "The port has a little cover, but it’s also internally waterproofed to IPX7."
