Deactivate Automatic Firmware Update/ Possibility to Downgrade

I Know, it's an old Garmin-shoe, BUT: I would like to urgently request that I can disable the automatic firmware update, or be able to officially use FW downloads from previous systems to downgrade, because:

1. Automatic Updates often happens at the dumbest moment.
2. If I'm satisfied with my current setup, I want to decide whether I want to risk an update, because  everyone knows it: "never change a running system".

Unfortunately problems after updates happens more often than we would all like. It would also be a relief for you Garmin developers, if I (Consumer) could downgrade, I wouldn't be angry, if something went wrong, and, I would still report what doesn't work, you can continue to improve with the information, and I can continue cycling with a device that works for me. Win Win ;-)
Please don't misunderstand me: I think it's great when Garmin improves the product, it's great! But it's my device, it's my setup (PM, Sensors HR etc.) and above all, it's my time that I have to spend when something stops working, so it must be my decision,  when or to update or not.

How do you see it here in the forum?

Thanx for your attention!

  • The old (and still working) technique is to place a dummy GUPDATE.GCD file in the device \Garmin directory, this mostly blocks the real one from  being placed in the directory thus no install. If one does sneak in (some Garmin updates seem to force themselves in) you can press the "Remind Me" option rather than "Install" until you reinstate the dummy. The dummy file can be created with a text editor and contain a single space.Has worked for me on many devices (including 1040) and worked multiple times over years.I am waiting a few weeks for general feedback as the beta issues even in late betas was not confidence building

  • Yep.  I have quite often found it necessary to run down-rev versions as new versions often introduced problematic bugs or behaviors for my use.  Having the choice when to update and also to revert to previous revs has been essential.

  • to create a dummy, that's a great work around, thanks for that!

  • There is no setting available to disable software updates from coming in, but you will have the option to delay the installation when you power on your Edge after it is downloaded.

Separately, there is no supported method offered by Garmin to roll back to older firmware versions.

  • Garmin-Blake, thanx for answering
