First Race with 840 Solar: Quarq PM/Cadence and Garmin HRM constantly dropping.

Disappointed about this experience. I have been using Garmin for a very long time and never have had this (though I know the forum has posts with these complaints). The Garmin speed sensor had no issues. Had done a pre ride with my set up the day before using a different Activity profile and had no issues. In fact I have been using the 840 for over a week and no issues. Too bad this happened when it counted the most.

Curious if the activity profile selected could cause this (don't see how it could).

Added images graphs from Connect and raw data sample.

  • Would you be willing to share the FIT activity file?

  • it was a really hard race! (or You are just still young!) Relaxed

  • Hi, 2 questions: which app did you use to display the data as numerical values? (Screenshot 2) While driving, messages came as the sensor disconnect/reconnect?

  • I used WKO5 for raw data view. There were no messages while riding, only noticed because fields would be blank.

  • Ha. Yes hard race but not that young at 55yrs. My HR has not come down much over the years and always have had a high threshold and max HR.

  • Todays ride had no issues with sensors. Yesterday I started the garmin at the start line, it picked up all my sensors but wonder if all the other ant+ devices may have caused some software glitch on the 840. Maybe if I had started the 840 at my car, away from all the other devices, it would have been fine. I don't think it is interference because there were times in the race when I would have been on my own and had drops. Seems like the drops were occurring consistently across the entire duration.

  • Thanks for the tip with wk05. I'm new to the garmin world, but before buying my 840 I did some research on the 1040 and there were often reports of connection stability problems with pm, especially wirh the provider inpeak, but also stages. in these cases, however, it was reported that the sensors logged on and off every few seconds, not like yours, irregularly and also longer. since everything went well with you today, maybe it really has to do with not propper connection with all the other devices.
