Mileage (odometer) migration from older Edge to new device

After searching for hours across threads for Edge 1040 and older devices, I found no workaround to update Totals.fit with total mileage on a bike.

I understand that most users can rely on track mileage on selective gear in https://connect.garmin.com/modern/gear and www.strava.com/settings/gear

But why don't they allow users to manually update the odometer? I want my new device (Edge 840) to show continuous mileage recorded by the older generation Edge.

Edge 500: bike A = 5927 miles

Edge 840: bike A = 23 miles

Desired outcome:

Edge 500: bike A = 5927 miles (retired device)

Edge 840: bike A = 5927 + 23 miles (new device)

Some 3rd party tools such as the paid version of FFRT can do it. Or you can zip then post your totals.fit file here and we can do it for you.
